Banbianlian Herba Lobeliae Chinensis

The source is from the whole plant of Lobelia chinensis Lour., family Campanulaceae. The medicinal material is produced in all parts of China but more in the reaches of the Yangtze River and the south provinces of China, collected in summer, dried in the sun or in shade. The crude or the fresh can be used.

Medicinal Properties Bitter in flavor, cold in nature and attributive to the heart, small intestine and lung meridians.

Actions Clear away heat and eliminate toxin, promote diuresis to relieve edema.

Application
1. It is indicated for snake-bite poisoning, bee or scorpion injuries and carbuncle of heat type, especially for snake-bite poisoning and it is a common Chinese medicine to treat snake-bite poisoning. It is used internally or externally, or the fresh is ground for external application.

2. It is indicated for ascites, edema and dysuria. It has remarkable and constant actions in promoting diuresis, can be used singly or together with Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis ) , Zexie ( Rhizome Alismatis ) and others that promote diuresis. Usage and Dosage 10 -15 g is used in decoction for oral use; 30 -60 g of the fresh is used; just right amount is used externally.

Notes Contraindicated for deficiency syndrome with edema.
